I am trying to find a good spot where my husband and I can rent out a small cabin for the weekend, enjoy the woods, and also the beach if possible. We don't want to be ON the beach, we want to be in the woods. If the place has some trails or scenery of course would be nice.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

You might get more of a response if you post on the Coastal NC forum as that's where the Outer Banks is located - unless you meant to refer to another area in VA Beach, Assateague, Chincoteague etc

Agree..Outer Banks is mostly beach since it is a penninsula. I haven't seen cabins unless you go to Rodanthe, but that is not in the woods.

Western part of VA, Clifton Forge at Douthat State Park. I used to trout fish there and rented a cabin a few times.

For beach and forest very near each other, I have camped in places like that in New England but VA and NC are very different. Mostly, you have scrub near the coast (due to the salt air), and salt marsh with some pine thickets. I recall years ago camping in a place in VA that had woods near an estuary (but no cabins and no beach), I think it might have been fairly near Jamestown. There are cabins at the Chippokes Plantation in VA, but that's on the James River not the Atlantic so you won't have beaches.

You might want to consider staying a few days in western VA or NC in a cabin, then spend the rest of the week tent camping on the coast.

We spend a great deal of time camping on the outer banks. There are no camping areas with any woods near the outer banks. As stated above, most places on the outer banks are without big trees. We like to camp on Ocracoke Island. No big chain stores, no chain restaurants, no 7/11's. All Mom and Pop places. Love it. We take our bicycles to get around town. Only reason for the truck is to drive on the beach. Love that place.
