As you mentioned above, I played Photon there at Lynnhaven Pwky back in the day! It was awesome! It was right across from the AMC movies and Phar-Mor Drug store. And, I think there was a Sports Authority there too.

I remember back in the 80s, Va Beach had Blue Laws (not sure about other Hampton Roads municipalities). Only stores selling necessities were open (grocery stores, etc.) I think the Blue Laws were repealed by the voters around the time you mentioned (maybe 86-87 ?).

But after the retail Blue Laws were scrapped, the liquor Blue Law stayed in place for years. I moved out of the area, and when I came back semi-recently; I noticed now ABC is also open & selling on Sunday.. Must've been repealed around early 2000s (?)

ps- to another post.. I remember K94, and their ubiquitous RocK-94 bumper stickers back in the day.

Anyone remember back in the early '80s, Pizza Inn ? It was the building that is now Wing King (near the corner of Rosemont & Va Beach Blvd.). That place was good times for a kid. I think they had one or two weeknights where it was an inexpensive all-U-can eat pizza bar (?) I kinda' remember the place being floored with a lush, red carpet, like a lot of Italian places were back in that era.. And then at some point prior to Wing King, it was a Chinese place right (?)

It seems like the strip mall behind this building wasn't built until after Pizza Inn folded, constructed maybe around '87. And the strip mall was front-anchored by a video rental place. Don't remember the name of it.. But that Pizza Inn was poppin' for families circa 1981.

Across the street near that was Shakey's Pizza. They use to play reruns of old Our Gang shows on the wall (if memory serves) and just had picnic tables in the dining room.

My parents once told me that the can remember that besides being on TV that both WAVY and WVEC were actually on the radio at one time. I do remember what is now "2WD" was once WVEC-FM but not sure where WAVY was located on the radio dial but I do remember reading someplace where Willard Scott ( yes THAT Willard Scott ) had once worked for WAVY radio and considering he was already in DC by the late 50's this had to be pre-channel 10.

Of course WTAR was channel 3 becoming WTKR in the early 80's.

OK..did a fast check..WAVY was on AM 1350 sporting a top 40 format but apparently was clobbered by WGH and also probably by WNOR too.
