58 in a 35 is insane. Anyone going that speed is paying absolutely NO attention to anything other than their own desire to get where they are going. To do the same stupid thing, 4 months later, is impossible to excuse, period. Behind the times my @ss. The speed limit is the speed limit. It doesn't matter what YOU think the limit should be.
There are really three different issues flying around in this thread:

1. Whether or not what the OP did was stupid. My answer: absolutely. But the OP knows that what she did was stupid.
2. Whether or not Virginia's speed limits are reasonable. Totally irrelevant to the OP's question.
3. Whether or not the OP should be crucified, skinned alive, whatever to the full extent of the law. Anyone who is an adult and believes this either has never had a young adult child, has totally forgotten what it's like to be young and make terrible mistakes, or is a heartless and cruel person. Show the young lady some mercy, folks; and remember, if you show someone no mercy, don't expect any in return when you're in a real jam.

Your license will probably be suspended for 6 months and you will probably have to take a drivers education class to get it back. The cost of Reckless driving in VA is about $500. Two reckless driving incidents and you are in some hot doo doo. Your license might get revoked then you have to start all over again and I mean all over. Written test, drivers test etc. After you get past the nightmare of going to court, dealing with crooked lawyers an unforgiving judge and police, having your license suspended or even revoked stay tuned for far worse. Every time, well 99.9% of time you apply for a job this dam thing will come up and you are at the mercy of the employer. If your qualifications and personality are that much better than the other guy then they might give you a chance. Otherwise it winds up in the round cabinet never to be seen again...
