KEMPSVILLE -

Was welcomed home yesterday to blinding police strobes and crime-scene tape, a double-shooting in our midst. Not to be inflammatory, but I didn't realize Green Run was spilling over to the rest of Kempsville. I'm going to save to move somewhere with one of those electric gates, or a small town in a "fly-over state" where people throw away their trash in trash cans, and it's safe to live. Am I backward, or unhip, or do I not just "get it"?

Hopefully there is something positive going on in where you live. Please help restore my faith. I guess you could say, "Well, it's not D.C.," or, "Well, it's not Baltimore."

"Let's be careful out there!"

Good morning, D!
Nothing as exciting as what you had... we've been loading up my daughter's truck with tree limbs that we had piled up after the storm. It's been a week and the city hasn't been around to get them yet. We're all getting tired of looking at them. Neighbors have been helping her load it up and she's taken our piles and is working on their piles now. Neighbors helping neighbors again....

It's a nice place to be today.

Quiet in our neighborhood...usually is. Everyone is our age. I'm taking it easy, it's been a rough week at work and I need me some quiet time while the BH is working a 12 at the hospital. May even have a couple cold ones later this afternoon. :-)

I'm guessing you're talking about the shooting that happened in Bridle Creek apartments? I saw it as I live near there too. Probably too close.

Do you really consider that Kempsville though? It's right by Salem High School. To me everything on that side of Ferrel Parkway is Salem. The other side I'd consider Kempsville.

Default What is/where is Kempsville?

Yes, it happened at the Bridle Creek Apts. Glad to meet you neighbor; although I am sad that it's under these circumstances, and I'll be looking over my shoulder for a lot more around here, now that this stuff has happened.

Kempsville, where? What a great question. I am now sure we live within. I tried searching for boundaries, the best in absence of a good visual map is this:
The Kempsville Planning Area is located in the west-central portion of the City. Its boundaries include I-264 to the north; Salem and Old Princess Anne roads, the Larkspur Meadows boundary, and the Dominion Virginia Power easement that runs through the Larkspur subdivision and along Independence Boulevard to the east; Elbow Road and the City of Chesapeake to the south; and the cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk to the west. (www.vbgov.com)

I couldn't find the Larkspur Meadows boundary, but I just used
NORTH: I-264
WEST: Military Hwy (The Chesapeake/Norfolk borders w/ VA Bch)
EAST: Independence Blvd
SOUTH: Elbow Rd./Chesapeake

- Wikipedia: Not sure how reliable the K'ville entry is, but it says it includes zip codes 23464 and 23462. (LINK)

- Kempsville Marker: Doesn't help us much, but it's cool. (LINK)

- Maps:

1.

(From vbgov.com) - weren't very helpful (because you can't read them), I can't really tell what's what here.

2. Found this USGS map: http://www.yellowmaps.com/usgs/topom...p/o36076g2.jpg, called "Kempsville Quadrangle", I don't think it shows political boundaries.

- Other: VB Historical Society (LINK) Still have to look through here, but it's nice someone's involved with caring for the history of good ol' VB!

Ya..I hear you train. Hubby and I miss Colorado Springs news= the same news being talked about for a couple weeks straight because of lack of news to report. I swear I will never complain about hearing about the same thing over and over again. No news is good news right? Coming from small town to Colorado Springs and then here...been a huge eye opener. I like the boring life, grin.

I live close to those apartments too, and I would consider my neighborhood Kempsville. I don't live as close as, it sounds like, you do though. Are those the apartments behind the foodlion? Not to be funny, but we never go to that one. Their food is crappy compared the the one on Ferrel and the one on Salem, and it just seems rundown. That park across the street always seems like bad news to me after dark as well.

I really like that Food Lion on Ferrell Parkway. It's big, not crowded (merchandise wise); seems to be brighter than some of the other stores which can be dark, junky looking and not very well marked.

As for today, we're hoping for a quiet uneventful day. We're going to have a cookout later with several of our neighbors.

In regard to the Kempsville area, we live at the western edge of the city in 23464 (near the Indian River/Military Hwy area) and yet if police have to respond out here, they come from the Kempsville precinct over on Kempsville Road. I've also heard this neighborhood classified as being part of Kempsville. Odd.

Yes, that is the 4th precinct by the library. Use to pass it every morning on my way to Chesapeake.

Maybe we won't have the cookout. It's raining. Wonder how I can cook a steak inside and make it taste like it was cooked outside on a grill?
