I hope HT really comes to Wards Corner however I remember a few years back HT said the HR region was too cost conscious for them and that was the reason they didn't expand. I guess times have changed now that HT has a few stores in the region and they seem to be building more.

VA Pilot always has fantastic comments on their high-interest HR local stories.

"Oh wow, a Walmart. Will it be a normal size, biggie size or the mega size Walmart. We really need a Walmart in Wards Corner. Maybe they will rename it Wardmart. Can't wait to be insulted in the parking lot by beggars. Wow, this will really bring Wards Corner back. Who needs all those little independent stores out there anyhow. Gosh hope it has a drug store, an optician, hair/nail salon and all the other great amneties Walmart offers in their big city stores. Just think, one will be able to walk in, get a hot pizza, eat it in the car and throw the box out into the parking lot. Wow."

"Wards Corner is a major crossroads in this city, with great exposure for retail. However, it has lost it's appeal due to the poor planning of it physical outlay. The citizens of that area need to challenge the city and the developers to do a better job of creating a unique shopping experience, NOT ANOTHER JANAF. MacArthur Center is loosing it glamor, it's appeal and it's high end stores almost monthly and shoppers are looking for a new experience without having to deal with the downtown traffic and expensive parking. Done right, Ward Corner could become a shopping destination with great original stores, good food emporiums and various art activities. We do not need another big box store with acres of parking. Come to your sense Mr. Perry."

"This move would have Teeters re-thinking their free snack displays.
I've already mastered the one handed baker's half dozen toothpick grab, wouldn't have to bike all the way to Ghent to perfect it now. If you saw a semi-ragged hobo appearance with a handful(7or so) of skewered mini carrots happily munching away, you may have spotted the Opine. The cop trailing me while asking and interceding with management as to why I didn't use the johnny come lately bike rack is a funny add on and dead give away to my lightning rod existence of garnering an unfair share of attention from authoratative figures. Locked my bike on a parking sign,= a bike rack in Norlolk. Got harrased for it at Teeter's in Ghent, hah! ! what a joke ! !"

"What?! No Trader Joes?! No Fresh Market!? No Whole Foods?! I can't for the life of me understand why Hilltop gets all the best grocery stores and Norfolk just gets another HT. Why don't these chains want to open up locations in beautiful Norfolk? I mean, c'mon, Norfolk even has light rail! (sarcasm)"

The only reason I read Virginia Pilot, is for the haters on there. Always good entertainment.
