I'm looking to buy a new or late-model used car, probably a Toyota, but not 100% on that. I would like recommendations for dealerships - with honest salespeople who are willing to negotiate a price that is fair for both of us! The one Toyota dealership I have visited (in Williamsburg) had a very rude salesman who told me they were selling hybrids for thousands of dollars above MSRP because of the demand, and so I shouldn't even bother trying to haggle. I particularly dislike being told that the price I'm agreeing to is "out-the-door" and includes all fees, only to have a bunch of extra charges tacked on when it comes time to sign! I'm not one of those people who will argue over pennies, but I do expect reasonable negotiation and honesty about fees upfront.

Anywhere you would recommend we look for a vehicle? Did you have a good experience with a particular salesperson? Again, I know the salespeople have to make a living, but I don't like wasting my time with someone who is not being truthful or fair. We're close to Williamsburg and Newport News, but willing to go anywhere on this side of the water for exceptional service.

Thank you, I will check them out. I normally don't mind the dealership experience and have had pleasant transactions with dealerships in other locations, just not in this area.

I second CarMax...we visited them to find out which model we wanted THEN once we had that figured out, found the dealer with the best price on it.
