I grew up in VB, went down to North Carolina for school, and am moving back to the VB area to start looking for jobs and etc. Since I haven't been back in VB since high school, where is the best place for me now?

I like low-key but upscale bars...I am a beer snob, so somewhere with a fantastic selection of imports, IPAs, etc would be ideal.

I don't do "clubs".... no rap music and "dresses that are shirt-length" and dancing and all that jazz.

Is there any kind of area, besides perhaps Town Center, that is a great place for young professionals? Maybe restaurants, bars, shops within walking distance of nice apartments. I'm willing to spend a little more in order to find this (if it even exists!!). I'm also open to other cities in Hampton Roads.

Any advice would be GREAT!

The good thing is that the VB or Hampton Roads population isn't big into the club scene either. They open up, then by next year they shut down. For what you describe it sounds like Ghent in Norfolk would be the perfect fit for you.

The biggest downfall for Hampton Roads is its lack of jobs and young professionals. For a recent grad it's hard to start a decent career in Hampton Roads. Unless you're in the medical field or military there's just not much for young grads. I've been to a few Young Professional meetups and most of the people there are realtors or pyramid schemers looking to push sales. It's funny that 40's is still considered "young" in Hampton Roads. 40's is young if you're running for President. I lived in VA Beach for 3 years after graduation and hopped around admin jobs. This year I decided to move to DC for better job opportunities and I wish I would have done this right after graduation. The entry level salaries in DC are mid level salaries in VA Beach. Plus there's alot more people to meet, in VA Beach it's hard to make new friends because most people stick with the circle of friends they grew up with.

If I were you I'd look into major cities like DC, NY. There are just a ton more opportunities for recent grads. In Hampton Roads you'll just make SLIGHTLY more than retail or fast food.
