Hey I just recently landed a job in the VA Beach area and am a recent college grad. I wanted to know where is the best place to live in the VA Beach area that will have a lot of young professionals and bars within walking distance to go to on the weekends and other social things to do. Any help is appreciated because I have to move very soon! Thanks!

VB Oceanfront, VB Town Center, or Downtown Norfolk would be my recommendations. Really depends what kind of vibe you are looking for and where you are working for me to get specific about recommending one of those 3 over the others.

My job is going to have me commuting around the VA Beach and Norfolk area so concerning my job location doesn't matter. I'm just looking for an area with people my age that I can meet since I know no one down there and stuff to do. I was told Chicks Beach as well, any thoughts?

I like chicks beach but I wouldn't consider that a really walkable place with young professionals. It is a chill place with a few bars that mostly locals hang out and a couple good restaurants.

Im gonna grossly steretype here but in general:

If you want hipsters, bars, live music, and restaurants you probably would prefer the Ghent or Freemason areas in Norfolk. Everything is close, you have access to public transit, there are good live music venues like the Jewish Mother and Norva, and there are cultural amenities like the Chrysler museum and Harrison Opera House nearby. There is also minor league hockey and baseball, some grumble that it isn't the majors but it is good quality action and you can get a ticket for under $15 so I love it.

If you want hole in the wall bars and beach culture you would probably prefer the oceanfront (it just gets nuts in the summer down there). It is very walkable and bikeable with tons of spots to hang out. The downside is that you have to deal with nonsense because it is also the touristy area and also a place where fights happen outside of clubs and stuff. Traffic can also suck down there.

VB Town Center is also very nice but it is sort of a psuedo downtown that was created in Virginia Beach in the last decade so it is hard to define its character at this point. There are places like California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, Red Star Tavern, and Gordon Beirsch... Nice places but mostly chains (if that matters to you). There is a comedy club, a performing arts center, a movie theater etc... plenty to do.
