Here is a question I have not been able to find the answer on anywhere....Is it possible to buy smoke cessation products in VA? I am talking Champix, Chantex, Zyban. If so, does one need a dr prescription? If so, what are the costs? We will be moving down this summer, and if this is offered in VA will purchase there as in Canada the cost is outrageous! I was a 'quit smoker' for 11 years but stupidly started again recently (a whole other story there). I have already utilized my insurance here in Canada for my smoking cessation products and really do not want to purchase at cost here - if I remember correctly it was more than $500 for 3 months. Thanks for any information

I did a quick search on Google for the three drugs and yes, in the U.S. they are prescription drugs.
I suspect cost depends on where you buy them and whether you have insurance that covers prescription drugs.

Depending upon what tier the drug falls in and insurance, it runs anywhere from 15-40 dollars. Chantex is not normally covered, so expect to pay around 100.00. If your insurance has a flex plan, then you will be fortunate.

Thanks! I will not have insurance coverage - so will be paying full amount. Would the $100 be for a one month supply or the full 3 month prescription? Even at that rate for one month this is much less expensive than in Canada. Sure gives me incentive to quit again Thanks everyone

This is great - we will be looking you up when we get down there, as we really want to continue our lessons and become fluent in Spanish. Thank you!

I just PCS to Norfolk, VA. It's my first duty station and I moved from Portland, OR. I work at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I don't know much about beach living or schools but I thought I would still post. I live in West Ghent and am greatly enjoying it. Lemme know if you have more questions, I'm happy to help if I can.

As far as Spanish goes, I lived in Spain for a bit and have a minor and have yet to come in contact with anyone that appears to speak Spanish-after 4 weeks. :-/ Lemme know if you find any classes or anything.

We have narrowed our housing rental search down to a few specific areas - the Bay Drive, Jefferson Boulevard area as well as Shore Drive between Paige Avenue and Kendall Street. Any thoughts on these areas in terms of living there with a teenager, crime rate, access to transit, how busy the beach gets in the warmer months, etc. Thanks for any input - much appreciated.

Just an update - we found a place to rent in Chicks Beach. Quite happy with it, and it is only a one minute walk to the sandy beach. We are in VB right now until Sunday, and have to say this area is very beautiful. One thing I have noticed down on and around the boardwalk area is how clean the area is, and how friendly everyone is. What a great city. The weather is nice, the foliage is super green and fresh, and we are just really happy with moving here. Thanks for all your suggestions and help. Have a very good Memorial Day weekend!
