I have the possibility of moving to Smithfield but only know the Norfolk, VB area from a few visits.

Our income would be relatively high for that area. What are the better neighborhoods? Do people who work in the town prefer to commute there and live somewhere else? Are the schools any good or is private the way to go? Is there much to the town, or do you have to drive to Norfok to do anything?

Have small children so would be interested in things geared towards that. Also, it looks like it could get quite muggy and buggy in the summer. Do people like living there? Are the people very friendly, or is it like most places you go these days with addressee drivers, rushes to get ahead in line, etc? Thanks in advance.

It's a nice, historic town. The schools are OK. If you want "great" schools, you may want to do private but the public are fine. For real shopping, you probably have to drive to Newport News or Chesapeake as there aren't any big box stores and much in the way of departments stores (there is a Peebles). People are friendly and like living there, but the town has grown quite a bit and has its share of rushing drivers.

A lot of the people who work in town live in Williamsburg, NN, Hampton, Suffolk, but some do live in Smithfield. It all depends on what you're looking for. Where do you live now?

I think the majority of folks who work in Smithfield choose to live nearby.( with a few exceptions like my neighbor who commutes from Williamsburg to Smithfield) Gatling Pointe, Cypress Creek, Founders Pointe, Eagle Harbor are the nicer developed planned neighborhoods in the area. All have clubhouses, pools, etc. Gatling Pointe also has a neighborhood marina and Cypress Creek has golf. Eagle Harbor, Gatling and Founders Pointe offer a number of activities for the kids who live there.. There are also a number of exquisite , private waterfront properties in the area for water lovers. But these are not in neighborhoods.
I have sold numerous homes in the area and all of the clients have been happy with their choices. Most have been happy with the schools although a few opted for private school at Nansemond Suffolk Academy.
There is an assortment of eclectic shops in Smithfield but for major shoping you would need to drive to nearby Suffolk or Chesapeake.

All of our area tends to get hot and muggy in the summer, a place on the water would give you a little respite..
