I am new to this forum, moving to Va Beach soon. I don't know anything about the area and am terrified I will end up in a bad part of town or a bad elementary school for my daughter, who will be starting kindergarten.
I have combed the threads but not seen much recent ones so I want to be sure I am getting up to date information.
PLEASE tell me what the good and bad neighborhoods are. I have a list of possibilities but am clueless, they could be in the ghetto for all I know and I want to avoid that! Looking to spend about $1400 a month on a single family home.
Good elem schools: Strawbridge, Princess Anne, Corporate Landing, Red Mill, Three Oaks, Windsor Woods, Ocean Lakes..am I right? Missing anything?

I can't really think of anywhere in Virginia Beach that I would consider BAD. Parts of Bayside, Green Run, Salem, and some areas near VB Boulevard are probably as close as it gets to sketchy but even those are fine... you just have a higher chance of some bad apples around there it seems. All of those schools you mentioned are in good areas. I have friends in the Ocean Lakes area that like it a lot and you should be able to find a house for rent in that range over there.
The VB school system has a very comprehensive webpage where you can look at test scores, programs, demographics... and whatever else you may consider important in determining a "good" school system. This is far more comprehensive than any random "My child likes this school... or I had a bad experience with this teacher" kind of revue that you may find on here.
The elementary school report cards are in a pull down menu at the top of each section.

I agree..all the places you mentioned are good areas. Windsor Woods has a brand new school that was just opened a year or so ago. We go there to vote..very nice!

I love VB Oceanfront and have only ventured outside of that for the Walmart, fast food, gas, etc. When I first visited in Aug 08, we came in by Fort Story and I saw very beautiful beach houses (?) or mansions (?). I was impressed and today I still am.

Aragona is not the Ghetto but your getting pretty close...Most people dont judge a neighborhood based on the elementary school but what high school the neighborhood kids would attend...If you are going to rent then that will not be a problem, but if your looking to buy it makes all the difference in the world

I am new to this forum, moving to Va Beach soon. I don't know anything about the area and am terrified I will end up in a bad part of town or a bad elementary school for my daughter, who will be starting kindergarten.
