My family of 4 will be relocating from a small town in NY to the Virginia Beach area. My husband just got a job with the City of Virginia Beach & will be working on Courthouse Dr so we are looking for a place not to far from there to keep his commute to a minimum. I have looked at several places to rent on Zillow and Craigslist but so far between scams and things not working out I have just about given up and time is running out. Does anyone know of decent areas with low crime, poverty, and good schools. We are open to apartments, town homes and single family homes but our maximum rent is only 1100-1200/mos and we would need at least 3 bedrooms. Any help would be such appreciated as i am know turning desperate. Thank you!

Here are neighborhood profiles and locations. I like Landstown Commons area. Not far from municipal center and there are others as well that are fairly close and nice.

Check out ocean lakes. Your budget is a little low for being near the Oceana (damn military housing allowance) but you might be able to find something in that range.

Thank you for the helpful information. Is there any areas that you would consider a defiantly bad area, one to stay away from? I'm also looking for recommendations on pediatricians.

Not out that way, the areas are pretty nice. Have friends who live in a development behind the amphitheater.
Sentara Princess Anne (SPA) has a clinic I believe and you can check with them for pediatricians. It's a new hospital complex with many clinics / medical offices in it.
