Hi,
I want to move from Pittsburgh to Virginia Beach. I'm retired and on a fixed in come. A low fixed income. LOL. I'm trying to find an apartment in a senior community that isn't too much money and as close to the beach as I can get. And it has to accept pets. It seems like a tall order but something has to be available somewhere! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Judy

Default Hope you found a place Erma

I saw the reply someone sent you and that was not nice. You said you needed a low income place and that you are on a fixed income and they refer you to a place that starts at $2150. Anyway, I am 67 and planning on moving to
Va B from Maryland. Did you find a nice affordable place? I'd really like to know where you ended up. I am online now searching for places.

Thanks
Emma

There AREN'T any decent middle class low income senior apts anywhere in southside Hampton Rds. A disappointment to be sure. They're everywhere else, but not in this area, sadly.

Here is a list from the city. Lynnhaven cove is in a nice quiet area, but it doesn't look like they have a website.

eharris - The Virginia Beach link that Spazkat provided a couple of years ago is still good though it was updated in 2014. Read through the guide up to page 7. On that page, they discuss subsidized housing for seniors, which is limited to 30% of income plus an added utility subsidy. They caution that their waiting lists range from months to a couple of years. If you want to move, get in touch with them as soon as possible so that you can go on the list.

I did not find such a guide for the city of Norfolk. Their website refers inquiries to the Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia. You can contact them via their website if you use Google to search for ssseva.org. Although I usually post links, for some reason the formatting for this one is not working. You can call SSSEVA at 757-461-9481.

Good luck.

Default Senior Housing Resources

As the population ages, Senior community development is on the rise. Most have the usual amenities and also have activities, local transportation, on-site management, etc.

Here are a few i know of in the area with income restrictions.

-Holland House (VA Beach)
-Victoria House (VA Beach)
-The Cottages (Chesapeake)
-Cromwell House (Norfolk)
-Wesleyan Place Apartments (VA Beach)

There are some others but this is a start. Call each for specifics. Hope this helps and good luck with your move

Best regards,

Ms. Ali

There is a new complex at Princess Anne @ Independence, across the street from Target, but I don't know the name. They offer independent, assisted, and memory care.
