How prone is Hampton Roads to serious wind storms? I'm particularly interested in Williamsburg and Gloucester Point, if it helps. Also, is flooding a big problem there? What about icy roads in the winter?

The most we get for bad weather here is a Nor'easter, heavy rain, high winds, tropical storms and hurricanes or the remnants of them! There have been tornadoes in some areas, but it's VERY rare.

The heavy rains from storms really only effect the coastal areas, Norfolk gets hit bad when there are storms and occasionally some of the canals in Virginia Beach flood over.

The only time I've experienced icy roads in the winter is when we've had snow and the road becomes compacted. Bridges ice over on rare occasions though...

So basically we do get those things, just not very often, so nothing to be worried about. I believe the biggest threat to this area are tropical storms and hurricanes, luckily when most of them reach us they are pretty weak and start breaking down in the Outer Banks. I think the last strong ones were Isabel and prior to that Floyd.

I've only lived here for 6 years, so maybe an area veteran can ease your mind!
