One thing that worries me about retiring to the Williamsburg/Yorktown area is the possibility that mosquitoes might be really bad there. I know the history books tell us the whole reason Williamsburg was founded in the first place was that the mosquitoes in Jamestown were godawful.

Does that mean Williamsburg (being inland) doesn't have as bad of a problem as areas closer to the rivers (Yorktown, for example). Or are they all more or less the same? Are any areas better than others (for example, are hilly neighborhoods better than the flatter neighborhoods?) Do some parts of town have aggressive spraying programs for this?

And, how does it compare to the mosquitoes we have up in northern VA? If it's about the same, then no problem. If it's worse, that might make us reconsider.

Mosquitos love parties..little buggers!
Seriously though, they can breed in a capful of water. We spray our yard and gutter and that seems to do the trick on this end.

The folks in Minnesota would tell us we complain too much, since the mosquito is their state bird! :-P

Sounds like it's more or less the same as northern VA. That's good. I still wonder if the hilliest areas would be best (but maybe that's just an old wive's tale).
