Has anyone tried kayaking to the Jamestown Settlement ships? If so how difficult is that stretch of the river for kayakers, how long does it take to get to them, and where is the best place to launch? It looks like it would be a cool thing to do.

You can launch at Jamestown Beach or Jamestown Marina for a very short paddle or launch at Powhatan Creek off Jamestown Rd for a long one.. If its calm the James is fine, once the wind picks up you will see whitecaps .

white caps? Hmmm...might want to rethink this idea. I'd hate to get out to the ships and then have a wind blow up and have a hard time getting back.

They are a rare occurrence. Only when a big storm whips up the water..

I may just have to try it, just to say I've done it.
