Hi. I'm currently employed as an Mechanical Engineering Tech in the Atlanta area but am considering making a move to the Hampton Roads area where I want to pursue a 4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering ( I have already accumulated over a years worth of credit in Engineering classes in the past). Upon getting my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering I would like to find a job in the area in that field.

Only one problem so far. I looked and looked for Engineering Schools in the area online that offer degrees in Mechanical Engineering and so far I have been able to find nothing. Are there really no Engineering Schools in the Hampton Roads area? I'm finding it hard to believe that in a metro this size there is not one school offering a 4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering. If not I might even settle for a school offering a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Maybe I'm overlooking something. Does anybody have any knowledge on this subject? Please let me know.

Getting to old to want to stick out the whole Engineering program but who knows.

What type of admission requirements does it have it you don't mind telling? Is it tough to get into? I only had about average grades when I took engineering courses eons ago but I'm far more knowledgeable now than I was then not to mention more disciplined.

ODU is a mid-tier school with moderate admission requirements. If you have a B average with a few C's in there you are probably OK, of course it has been a few years since i graduated to things may have changed a bit.

I am not sure how much of a preference they give to Virginia residents but that may be another hurdle as well. If you don't get in to ODU right away, the school has an excellent relationship with Tidewater Community College (TCC) so that you could take your core classes at TCC then transfer in to ODU your junior year. Honestly, since it is cheaper, I might suggest that you do that option if it suits your situation.

Good luck!
