I am looking to bring my wife up to BG this week and have a few questions from people who have more experience with BG as all the answers I get online are outdated. I'm coming from NC and plan to spend the day at BG then stay the night in an area hotel and leave the next day. All on a decent budget.

First, is it worth it to get the meal plan at Busch Gardens? Are the meals at menu price pretty much the same or higher?

We will arrive to BG sometime around noon and ride the rides and such. I would like to stay for the fireworks but we will see how that works out.

I only chose Newport News because I can get a hotel room for about $100 and it's close to BG. Is there another area close that I should be looking at?

Second, are there any decent restaurants around BG that I should visit and skip eating my dinner at Busch Gardens?

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Very possible to do.

The meal plan is a good value but I don't get it simply because I don't need a side and dessert with both meals. If you didn't get the plan, depending on what you got, it would probably run you about $7-$10 extra per person to buy everything the plan offers ala cart.

Really if you're getting there at noon I would just stop and get some fast food along the way and have an early lunch with that. You can also pack a lunch/dinner. There are picnic areas in the parking lots.

I would stay for dinner and the fireworks.

Check out Kayak to see if you can get a room that is the same price in Williamsburg as opposed to having to go down to NN.

Agree with Coconut. The meal plan will save you money compared to buying the items separate. Of course after eating at BG too many times to count none of it is very tasty.....

I would try to find something in Williamsburg if you can, also if you can do one other day you could do BG one day and Water Country the next.

The fireworks are really pretty and worth watching!

We eat before going into the park and then only have one meal inside. I travel around a bunch and visit many parks. The food at BG is pretty bad. We just returned from Hershey Park and everything we ate there was great. Can't help on hotels as we stay in a camper.

Thanks. I had to push the trip back to next week due to my wifes schedule so I got a little more time to piece some things together.
