Going to be working in JEB L.C. next month. My first question I know there's a gate on the east/southeast side of the base, what's the closest gate to East Beach / Ocean View?

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the info I've gathered:

Chick's (Chic's) Beach VB is a fun and generally safe area but you'll pay a lot compared to East Beach / Ocean View to live there.

East Beach / Ocean View Norfolk, there's a negative stigma against the area as there are plenty of bad parts. The majority of the ocean front is safe, everywhere else is a checkerboard where one neighborhood could be nice while another may not be. Compared to Chick's Beach, you get a lot more for your money. Are there a way break down the checkered board, focus on a specific range of streets?

You basically have it right. Although some people will tell you "East Beach" is different than "East Ocean View." Technically, East Beach is a small, separate community touted as one of Norfolk's best New Urbanist neighborhoods. It feels detached from the rest of Ocean View, which I'm sure was done on purpose. I've talked to a few people who live there, and they don't like people saying they live in Ocean View.

I prefer East Ocean View over East Beach. EOV is a real neighborhood, in my opinion. It feels like an authentic space. It's more working class, and the people are just regular people. There is more crime, especially between Third Bay and Twentieth Bay, but that doesn't mean you'll get into trouble. I describe it as a "rough around the edges" kind of neighborhood. I'd go and check it out if you get the chance.

Chick's Beach is how you describe. It's really laid back, mostly easy going (aside from the occasional bar fight). Crime is not as bad, but it's not non-existent either. It's a good spot, for sure. They're pretty close to each other, so it wouldn't be hard to check each one out.

My daughter is stationed at Little Creek. She said to tell you the closest gate would be Gate 1 at Little Creek and Shore Drive.

Sorry I can't offer any information with the rest of your post.

Here ya go:

Blue is East Ocean View, Red is East Beach, and Orange is Chick's Beach.

Usually the term "Ocean View" just refers to the area around Ocean View Ave from Shore Dr. to about Tidewater Dr. However, West Ocean View and East Ocean View are specific neighborhoods with more distinct boundaries. If you go to Google Maps and type in "West Ocean View, Norfolk" you'll see a dotted line around the neighborhood's border, for example. Hope this helps some!
