Anyone ever stay at the Duke of York Motel that's right on the beach in Yorktown? It's old, it's cheesy, it's a relic from the 60s--but looks like it could be fun, too. We're coming down for two days and thought it might be a fun change of pace from our usual places in in Williamsburg. Thoughts?

^^ Yes, but I don't always trust reviews on Trip Advisor, or the other review sites. Too many people go to those sites to either trash places (often unfairly) or promote places they have a financial stake in, so IMO reviews are less and less reliable the more well known a site becomes. Been burned a few times that way. I've had better luck asking on city-data.

I've think the reviews on tripadvisor.com are much more reliable than on some of the other sites. More than half the reviews on tripadvisor rated this hotel as very good or excellent. There is enough info on reviewers to assure me that they are not ringers posting positive reviews because of an interest in the place.

Reviews on Google & Yelp tend to be a dumping ground for complainers.

The restaurant is suppose to be very good -- at least that's what I've been told by folks I've met since moving to Newport News.
