Curious why team Obama chose to hole up in Kingsmill to prepare for the debate. Great community-- love it myself--but I was guessing he'd end up in a swankier community, something a little more presidential. Does he have a timeshare there or something? Or maybe a friend who lives there? Also, is it weird to get in and out of there right now with the POTUS there?

umm, the golf course.

I've been there. It's nice but hardly "luxury". When I first heard that, I thought it was going to be The Williamsburg Inn.

But to avoid distraction, why not Camp David?

My guess is he's busy with a very big distraction that isn't being talked about but requires him to be next to The Farm. If you catch my drift. That would explain Williamsburg--just surprised that they chose Kingsmill.

I do understand and I'm assuming that is what most of the "debate prep" involves -- catching up on what is going on because he has been so busy with talk shows and celebrity fundraisers. But the White House and Camp David are fully equipped, as is anywhere the President travels.

My bet is still the golf course. They even had photos on one of the news sites of him looking it over . . . somewhat wistfully.

Let's just say the chances are high that there's more going on right now than debate preparation and there are certain things that need to be done with the POTUS in presence at a certain facility. Debate preparation makes a nice excuse. But enough on speculation on why he's in Williamsburg--that really belongs more in POC. The question for this thread is how he happened to choose Kingsmill.

Romney was campaigning heavily in Virginia at the same time. Nice digs ( house) easy to guard. Secure .Close to DC. For the second time, President Barack Obama has chose to prepare for a presidential debate in a location operated by resort operator Xanterra Parks & Resorts. This week he stayed @ Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va., where he stayed in one of the resort’s three freestanding homes, which are frequently used for high-end group gatherings. While preparing for his final debate with Senator John McCain in 2008, President Obama stayed at northwestern Ohio’s Maumee Bay State Park Lodge for three nights.

Previous democratic retreats at Kingsmill in the past. So it was a known destination for logistics, security., etc.

The Democratic caucus met there about 18 months ago.
