hey guys

Im a recent college grad and I'll be moving to NPN for a white collar job. Can anyone recommend a good place to live? Preferable somewhere near shopping center, places like costco and restaurants.

I heard yorktown, chesapeake are pretty good. How is the traffic in the morning from cheasapeake area to NPN?

What do you guys think?

Port Warwick and City Center/Oyster Point in Newport News are good options for young people from what I remember.

If you're taking a job in NN, I strongly suggest living on the Peninsula. There's two tunnels to the Southside (Chesapeake/VB/Norfolk/etc.), and both of them are pretty hectic in the morning. If a car breaks down in the tunnel or if there's an accident, traffic bottlenecks for miles. Depending on what part of Chesapeake you'd live in, you're talking anywhere between 20-40 minutes, without traffic.

I second Port Warwick and City Center/Oyster Point. People will tell you NN is a hellhole, which is BS. Like any other city, it has areas to avoid (East End). But the sections recommended are really nice, and the area near Christopher Newport University is awesome...they've built up that area very nicely in the last decade!

Hampton is fairly decent as well...a lot of Hampton U students live off campus near the city's town center, another newly-developed area.

A good friend of mine lives in Yorktown off (I think) Magruder Blvd. Nice area, just watch out for the deer. ;-)
