A friend of mine on the southside area in the Hampton Roads area is having some financial difficulties, and would like to know where a decent food pantry is. The one they have been going to regularly serves rotting produce/very old bakery items {food that should be in the trash instead of being given away}, and has an extremely inefficient sytem of handleng the number of people that come through.

The one in question is actually off of the South Eastern Food Bank site. I was hoping to find a "local" recommendation to pass along to them.

I visited one of these sites temporarily in the past when I was in between jobs and can agree it was pretty bad. The setup involved lining people up through a long hallway and then slowly escorting one at a time. It was mostly past-dated bakery items and junk foods - high carbs and sodium...very unhealthy. Any produce they had would run out quickly or was already going bad. I ended up finding better food in a dumpster than consuming the trash they were trying to get rid of.
