I am thinking about taking Amtrak from DC to Norfolk. From the description at the Amtrak web page, it doesn't sound like there is much of a train station there. Has anyone ridden the Amtrak to or from Norfolk? What is the trip like?

Do any of you recommend a cab company or any sort of transportation I can call to pick me up and take me to Chesapeake?

Thanks!

The station itself is actually under construction, but it's going to be pretty small from what I noticed.

I haven't ridden yet, but from all accounts I've read, the trip should be pretty nice. It's very close to downtown Norfolk, so you should be able to find a cab service. I know "Black & White Cabs" is pretty popular.

Isn't there light rail near the station?

No problem! Good luck.

@stuckinsj Right now, light rail only goes through Norfolk to the VB line. It doesn't reach Chesapeake.

A couple of decades ago, there was a commuter type ferry that you could take from the Waterside area to downtown Portsmouth. Would still need a safe/reputable transportation company to get to Chesapeake, but does anyone know if the ferry is also an option? It might be easier just to take a cab than to combine light rail and ferry, but just wondering...

Trying to make this public transportation thing work, since I now live in the DC area and the traffic to get to Hampton Roads is a nightmare! Thanks for the info.
