Hi all, I am currently moving out of a rental home and leaving one of the roomates behind. My name is already off the lease and I have moved into another home and signed a lease there. My roommate at the old place is claiming that I will owe him for electricity for the 1/2 of the month that I am no longer there.
I will not be using the AC, I will not be using the lights, the kitchen, the bathroom. Nothing. I no longer have anything to do with this property. Do I still owe him for the rest of the month? The electricity is in my name anyways and has been transferred the day I moved out. I paid my rent for the whole month and I do not believe I owe him anything else. Am I right?

You don't owe him a thing and don't let him bully you into it.

Also, once he moves out, if there's a balance due, you're not obligated for any of that, either.

Do you owe the money? No.

You should keep a close eye on the account, though, to ensure the portion for when you were living there is paid. You don't want this going to collections. Something like paying $50 to save the relationship may warrant paying it, but I'm guessing since you already wrote this the relationship has already gone south.
