Thank you SO much!! I agree and you guys guessed it... I'm from Jersey City, so I'm trying to get AWAY from crime, lol!

So with that being aid, MANY PEOPLE have told me to stay away from Portsmouth. I think I'll heed their advice.

I'll stay away from the peninsula... I'd like my commute to be no longer than 30-45 minutes, at most.

So, I guess I'll concentrate my search to Virginia Beach. Thanks!

Working in Virginia Beach, but wanting to live in Newport News is comical. The southern part of Newport News would be your NJ equivalent of Camden. VB has the lowest crime rate for a city it's size in the country.

Portsmouth doesn't have a lot going for it. I would rather live in Jersey City.

So... Here we are 6 months later and I've completed the process... I will sign the lease on a 5 bedroom home in Virginia Beach on 3/1. Deposit has already been paid.

I have visited twice. The home is on Inglewood Ln in Virginia Beach. I know what I've seen, but tell me, for those of you from VB, how is that area REALLY?

I LOVE the house, by the way...

Move date 5/1/14.

You're this far in and you still have reservations about the area? Virginia Beach is a great town. You might have your usual property theft but there won't be drive by shootings or carjacking or anything. I would relax if I were you.

Before you sign. Read some of the other posts on Virginia Beach. Like the Water Bill post. Not to mention the traffic, depending on where you live, can add an hour to your commute on some days.
