We used to live in Chesapeake, and I sure do miss that area. I loved keeping a bag by the door always ready to go to the beach. When the wind blew the right way, I could smell the ocean. One thing I could live without was that bay-bridge tunnel, but I survived it... barely.

Now there is a distant possibility of relocating to Richmond in a few years, how long does it take to get to VA Beach from Richmond? Do I have to go through that horrifying tunnel?

Ever since hubby mentioned it, all I can think of is the crab cake sandwich at Abbey Road, is that place still there??

It's about an hour and a half from Richmond to Va Beach. You do have to go through the hampton roads bridge tunnel or the monitor merrimac bridge tunnel to get there.

We live in Richmond and have a beach house in VB. It takes us 2 hours door to door from western Richmond to oceanfront in Northern VB, unless tunnel traffic is bad. It has taken as long as 4 hours in the Summer.

I will revive this old thread, and say I always miss Va. Beach too. I live in a very cool city on the coast - Charleston, Sc. But, yes, I still miss ol' va. Beach because I was born there and grew up there. I miss the memories, family that is still there, and the Chesapeake Bay, Lynnhaven River, Lynnhaven Inlet, Waterside, miss going to Old Dominion Basketball games, miss going to Va. Wesleyan Basketball games, miss riding through Seashore State Park.

Another option other than the tunnel is 460. Though it is out of the way it will get you here, eventually...

Va Beach will always have a special place in my heart. I miss it more than anything, but I like Sacramento, CA just a tiny bit more. If taxes are too much here by the time I retire, I'll most definitely move back to Va Beach.

I miss Virginia Beach until I visit; then I remember exactly why I left and I stop missing it for a few years.
