What areas of Norfolk would you say would be nice, zip codes if you have that would be safe around 85,000.
Thanks

Ghent, Larchmont.

You can afford a good neighborhood if you're making $85K. One thing to keep in mind about Norfolk is that it is a mixed bag. You'll find expensive properties, and then you'll find inexpensive properties. There are also a number of foreclosures, such as this one for $55K, if it is still available.

We need 2 beds 2 bath and we are looking to buy a home with cash around 85,000 or less. Seen some things in the Piers Point Place in Va Beach area but not to sure about what is in Norfolk area.

Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are going to be safer because they function as suburbs of Norfolk and Portsmouth (even though they are indeed cities in other aspects). That is not to say that they do not have unsafe areas. That is to suggest that the unsafe areas that do exist, are for different reasons than they exist in Norfolk and Portsmouth. So some perspective is needed.

I would look at foreclosures. That is the only way you're going to get something decent for $85k here. Even in worse areas of the seven cities in Hampton Roads, properties still sell for $100k, $150k. Particularly in Norfolk, where good areas are often more expensive than they are in cities like Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.

Norfolk is like any other city in Hampton Roads. If you want to live in a safe area, you will have to pay for it.
