Hey Everyone,

My state inspection is coming due and I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any good shops in the Virginia Beach area to go to for a state inspection. I'm looking for people who don't nitpick or try to line their pockets out of these inspections. I like to maintain my own vehicles, (I have trust issues being an airplane mechanic and all) so I'd really prefer one of those "good ole boy" inspections where they just pull the car in honk the horn and say it's good to go lol. But if I could find a legitimately fair place I would go there too.

I feel the need to preempt these types of comments by saying my car is in good repair to the best of my knowledge, I'm not hiding anything or trying to get around anything, I just know from my hometown in Missouri these annual inspections are a great way to make extra money off of unfounded gripes. So I'm trying to avoid that, just want an easy process and at least someone trustworthy enough that if they say something is wrong I know it's for real.

Anyone have any input?

If your vehicle is in fine shape, you shouldn't have any problems anywhere. If there is something that would cause a fail, they will let you know, show you the issue and it'll be your call to move forward with the repair or not.

I recommend going to Autoworks on S. Lynnhaven. I have a 1993 Volvo that is in good shape and I know when it won't pass, but I have had some shops tell me that certain things were wrong that I knew for a fact wasn't wrong. It just comes with the territory of being a female with an older car. Anyway, that has never happened to me at Autoworks.

In fact, they have great reviews on Yelp as well.

JT, Cavalier Garage.. on VB Blvd, near First Colonial Rd intersection.

They used to be down near the Oceanfront, & have been in business since the 1950s. It's hard to maintain an auto biz that long without being trustworthy/honest. For whatever it's worth, I've had work (& an inspection) done there in the past, they treated me well. peace.

It's just an inspection. I took my car to Tread Quarters for an inspection a few months ago. They gave me a laundry list of "recommendations," but noted they weren't required to pass inspection. So, I passed inspection fine and tossed their list in the trash on my way out.

Yeah, if you have an older car or one that is on any borderlines, I would typically avoid TQ for safety inspections. Some are worse than others. The one in Hilltop was pretty bad and tried to fail my car for leaky struts, despite not having leaky struts in the first place.
