Hello everyone! Can you all give my husband and I some much needed advice on where to settle and buy a home on the Eastern shore? Nothing too big....it's just us two, but we do need 3 beds/2 baths minimum.....We are a quiet middle aged couple , no kids, no pets and have a net yearly income of slightly over $50,000 a year. We are not looking for drama or excessive crime ridden areas...We like a little space from would be neighbors, but not too much. We love the water! We don't know where to start looking for a home....any help would be so wonderful....thank you in advance.

Where will you be working?

ETA: the eastern shore is not part of Hampton Roads.

You'll definitely find that on the Eastern Shore!

Why are you moving there?

Hi guys....thanks for the quick responses! First, we are both "some what" retired....I still work from home a bit, and my husband is retired from the military, but does a lot of volunteering. We visit the beaches In the summertime and like the small quaint towns we pass by....

Is there a real estate agency you guys would recommend to us? Do you think we should rent first, then buy? We would like at least a half acre, or two. Thanks for trying to help us with this.

Renting first is a good idea. You may find that the Eastern Shore lives up to your dreams and makes you happy. But if it does not, it is a lot easier to move at the end of a lease than to sell a home & then move.

Check out easternshore.craigslist.org. I realize you have to be careful on craigslist, but it seems to be the best source for rentals no matter where one is looking. There is a 3 bdrm/2bath house in Parksley for $900.

Good luck!

Renting is definately a good idea the eastern shore is not for everyone. But a lot of semi retired like it here. If you are a gotta have it now shopper... Then not so much . Check out Onancock online there are several real estate agencies listed there.

I would avoid the Eastern Shore, you're just too isolated there.

If you're looking for a similar feel, but closer to civilization, take a look at the Surry area. You can then at least take the ferry over to Jamestown/Williamsburg.

If the OP lives on the northern eastern shore near Wallops Island she won't feel isolated. There is a tiny/small city feel. Plus the OP could see rocket launches and be very close to Chincoteague. Maryland is right there and as well.

I wouldn't consider anything in Delmarva to not be isolated, but maybe it will suit the OP.
