My husband and i are first time home buyers and are looking at a few houses on Findley Square in Hampton. My husband is military and will be gone frequently. How is this area?

What part of Hampton is Findley Square? I lived in the north Hampton side of town (between Magruder Blvd, Big Bethel Road) for many years. But I am not familiar with Findley Square. My husband is also Military and was often away. My children and I felt very safe in our neighborhood. We lived in Bellgrade. Other neighborhoods in the area include Baker Farm and Samantha Lakes. All are off Semple Farm Rd.

The neighborhood is called Wilken Park The last three homes that sold in the neighborhood in 2007 sold from $170,000 to $179,000. There is one that just went under contract that was listed at $154,000. It's located off of Armistead between Lasalle and Mercury Blvd. Not to be an alarmist but you should always search the Va State Police Sex Offender Registry before buying any home or property in VA. You can search by address or zip code region here Sex Offender Registry Search (http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov/sor/html/search.htm - broken link) The Daily Press is creating a mappable database for crime. Currently it only works for Newport News or Williamsburg. Do you have any children that will be attending school ? If so you can check out the schools on SchoolMatters - Home or GreatSchools.net Where will your husband be stationed ? Let us know and what price range you are considering and we'll post some suggestions. You may want to consider renting. Depending on the price range there are some tremendous rental deals out there from home sellers who haven't sold their homes. Have your spoken to a lender to see what you qualify for and what your closing costs will be ? Will you be using a VA Loan ?

May I suggest the sub division of Michaels Woods in Northhampton. This area is thriving and untouched (for the most part) from the grimyness of southampton and south NN. The housing developments off of Big Bethel Road north of Hampton Roads Center Parkway are also nice. Then again there is always the Kiln Creek area that spans across NN and York County. Hope this helps.
