It says "For purposes of this section, "disturb or interfere with" includes removal of, damaging or defacing monuments or memorials" To relocate is not to remove. As I stated before a random statue /plaque placed with no historic tie does not a memorial make.

The Charlottesville mess is over the relocation of the Lee Statue to another park.

You notice that in Charlottesville the Circut Court Judge gave it a 6 Month stay. In my opinion, it was because of that Rule. In my opinion again, I say it's not going anywhere.

Back to your "relocation" theory. Relocating is Removing, but I say let's just wait till the courts decide.

Even McAuliffe wants to "Change" the Ruling. But I heard January. He will also be gone in January.

Tysonengineer, where was a confederate statue put up in 2013 in Montana?

Statutes put up decades after the Civil War are still part of history and are not monolithic in what they represent. Meaning is in the eye of the beholder. For some it is sorrow and remembrance. It is not all about "traitors." Gail Tansill Lambert points that out in her op/ed.

I'm a Black person and I don't want to see a statue of Missy Elliot. But I'm not from here so I'm biased.

I don't know if the objection to the statues is because the statues of are of White people though. If it were a Black person fighting for the same cause, a Black person might want those statues removed as well.

What? Honoring anyone via a statue/monument isn't about race. It's about what they accomplished or stood for. Honoring someone who isn't white is not throwing anything "in white peoples face." Except for maybe white supremacists, specifically, but that is certainly not the majority of white people, and I'd be all for offending them, quite frankly.

Regarding Missy Elliott specifically, aside from a few songs I've heard on the radio or saw on MTV many years ago, I'm not familiar with her major accomplishments. IMO, having a successful career isn't reason enough to honor someone with a monument. But maybe she does other things I've just not heard about.
