Well, I have decided to sell my condo and buy a home here in central Va Beach. I am hoping maybe some of you might give me a few suggestions for neighborhoods. Let me start out by saying I am probably too picky but I do have some ideas in mind. Ideally, a one story home where I can walk to Town Center would be great. Mostly, I have been looking in Pembroke Manor (for proximity) but I have some reservations as some of the properties have not been kept up as much as I have hoped. Some streets seem better than others. Also, I am hoping to find a home that has been updated since I am not the handiest guy around. Painting and carpeting I can do but plumbing not so much. . Recently, I drove through Kings Grant and fell head over heels with the area but mostly it is over my price range of $275k. There are a few smaller homes in there that are closer to my range but as a single person, I don't want to feel isolated inside of a large neighborhood. Easy access to come and go is important to me. A nice home on the periphery might work. Again, I would be willing to do a little work but mostly I am hoping for something I can move into as is.

Default Near Town Center

There are several neighborhoods close to Town Center in your price range, and, unfortunately, all have some homes that have not been kept up. (There's actually one home in Kings Grant that was just reduced to 270K, but I didn't check details as far as condition goes) That's quite a walk to Town Center, too! I live a little closer, in Thalia, it's a little more than a mile. We love walking down for dinner - sidewalks all the way, it's great. In between Thalia and Kings Grant are Malibu and Birchwood, which I'm sure you're also familiar with, and they are generally in a lower price range. Also, the townhouse neighborhood behind the library (mostly two story homes, though) is a little newer than the single-family areas. Then there's Thalia Village on the other side of the Blvd, which does not have a "neighborhood" feel because of through traffic. That's pretty much it from Independence to Little Neck.....
