I'm moving back to the Hampton Roads area after being away for several years and am looking for an apartment or home to rent. Found a good deal in Estabrook in the Henrico Street area. How is the neighborhood as far as crime and overall safety? We primarily keep to ourselves and don't look for trouble but just want to get an overall opinion of the area.

Thanks,
Matt

Not a good area anymore. I have a friend who lives off Norview and she says it's changed over the years. I use to drive thru there alot back in the day and many businesses have closed down. I played ball over at Sherwood Forest Elementary school, alot of section 8 housing over there now.

Default Estabrook

Hi,

I lived in Estabrook from 2001 to 2005; specifically on Robin Hood Road. The area is extremely spotty. There are some quaint old houses in comfortable, established neighborhoods. There are also some pretty rough places. There was a drive-by shooting in my front yard 15 minutes after my 9-year-old son quit playing there (!). I also witnessed firsthand a walk-by shooting on Cromwell (person walking down the sidewalk pulled a handgun and shot out the windows of a van going by). The day before I moved away, someone broke into my house and stole my laptop computer.

In general, I'd be pretty careful, especially if you have children. Sherwood Elementary is not the greatest school, either.

Good luck!
