I know your pain when it comes to bugs. I cannot stand them either. We lived in virginia beach and had a problem with mosquitos. We called the city and they came out and sprayed our backyard for free and gave us some good advice that helped. Inside the house, we did have a problem with spiders, for a bit there, but we contacted an exterminator that came out once a year and sprayed and we were good for the year. Don't fret it's not like your worst nightmares. You'll be fine. If it will your nerves, keep a supply of Raid on hand just in case you see one or two.

I was wondering because you said spiders. Are there spiders that you should worry about in Virginia. With kids they explore everywhere.

No, as long as I have live here (20+ years) spiders have never been an issue. Typical house spiders
