You forgot to comment on the "current" list, you just reverted to the original negative points?
  1. The schools system is excellent.
  2. The cost of living in insanely low
  3. It is secluded enough, yet close to civilization.
  4. The majority of the areas are nice, safe neighborhoods
  5. And I will correct my prior statements to say MANY not all the people living here. I have found some decent people.
ChessieMom,
Instead of going back & forth let's just say "We agree to disagree" & leave it at that.

ANYWAY...

Erma,
Yes I am from the east coast. The rudest part, NYC/NJ. Where the state bird is flow on one hand by every driver, colorful metaphors are shouted at will, and people will get into disputes for the stupidest things, but they do it to your face. This is why I was caught so much by surprise by the attitude that is prevalent here.

It's not southern/yankee culture shock because I lived in Florida for a few years when I was a naval aviator and I was also stationed at Oceana back in the early 80's and the people here were MUCH nicer. Can anyone tell me what caused the change in attitude?

Oh BTW, they don't have personal property tax on cars, boats or any vehicles there.

You're judging people...the majority whom were not born and raised here. Lots of migration as you should know with a military background. As far as PP tax..well, it is what it is and isn't going to change. Hell, we finally got rid of city stickers in some areas. You have a whole new younger generation out there raised entirely different than boomers an X generations. As far as saying Florida is a southern culture, I'd have to disagree with that. I call it more of a California at the end of the east coast.

Traffic I tell ya! Thats what changed peoples attitude! As far as Florida being a place filled with southern culture...hold on...wait for it...OMG..LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Try living in Mississippi!!!By the way Virginia is considered Southern!! But for Hampton Roads...Its a cultural boiling pot wtih people from all over the U.S. ....weeeeeeee! your right there are some attitudes up there! especially on the road!! and at yard sales getting into competition with little ole ladies and the current gold fling!!! Did I say with lil ole ladies...oh yea...And the Navy, now you wanna talk about back stabbing and what ever...mannn...you are either in the crowd or your out! Another words if your in the crowd...PUCKER UP! If your out, well thats another story...atleast when I was in! Those squids deffinitely need attitudenal adjustments!!! And the occassional midshipmen fresh out of college. Did I say that..I guess so!! Man I miss it up there! I miss you guys in Va.!!! Hopefully by the end of this month, we'll see if my old boss will call me back!!!

I love the deep south, laid back, not in a fricken hurry to do anything. Midwest folks in rural areas aren't much different, just another way of not being in a hurry or looking for that pot of gold to be given to them. True meaning of Redneck IMO is someone who utilizes what they have, not trying to keep up with the Jone's and then complaining about debt.

The term redneck was derived from when the workers would be out in the fields working and there necks would be red from tanning or sun burnt. but then later it turned into pretty much a derroggatory statement. Kinda like other statements, but that is another thread.
But yea that hole area up there is fast paced and yes alot of people have attitudes, but if you see where the attitudes come from...mainly the young kids, teens up to 20s. But there is tudes everywhere you go! Its not that bad of an area up there.
It is very s l o w paced down here! Which wouldn't be bad if I were working and had some entertainment! I'm not ready for this slow yet!!! I'm coming back home!!!!!
