Hey All,

I am applying to the Hampton University College of Pharmacy, and I just wanted to see what the area is like. I don't know Virginia very well. My parents lived in Virginia Beach 30 years ago, and liked it, but things change. A friend who went to UNC Wilmington said Va Beach is quite Rednecky. That don't bother me a whole lot, but I just wonder if it's true. Mostly what I want to know about is are there things to do? Nightlife? Is it a dry county/City? Also, I am applying to VCU, anyone got an opinion about Richmond? I think it is rather a small city, but I have been told that it has quite a bit of bad sections?

Thanks,

Future Pharm Stu.

First, let me say that Hampton U is a great school (in fact my dream school)and i hope u get in. The city it is located in, Hampton, is a better city than people want to give it credit for. The city has an average crime rate, it ain't perfect, but a lot safer than Norfolk and Newport News. Of course this city has areas you want to avoid but what city dosen't? Most of the nightlife is in Norfolk and VA Beach but there is some on the peninsula too. It also has a lot of college-age kids. The whole area has a little redneck in it (pretty christian, military, has a lil accent that is spoken.) Do you want to live on or off campus? If you are trying to live off campus than you will sleep a lil easier at hampton than at vcu. Richmond is a very dangerous city, but it does have a lot of jobs. So hampton u gets my vote.
