I'm considering buying in Chesapeake in the spring - in one of the new communities south of 64 (Culpepper Landing, Summer Park areas). Can anyone offer an approximate driving time from these areaa to the Navy base in Norfolk? Let's say I drive to the base around 6/7am, and return home around 4/5pm. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Culpepper Landing is right off George Washington Highway. If you can be out the door and on the road before 6am, you can beat the worst of the traffic that accumulates between that subdivision and I-64. After that, it can be slow going. Afternoons coming down that same road are pretty slow going between 2:30 and 6:30 pm. I drove it every day since I lived about a mile from Culpepper Landing.

I'm thinking you'll have a bare minimum of 30 minutes with perfect traffic conditions going to and from the base. Probably more since G.W. Highway cannot support the traffic it gets each day.
I'd suggest taking a day and making the trip in your own car during those times for a more accurate assessment.

I work in Chesapeake and travel to Norfolk Naval Station quite a bit. In the early a.m. the HOV lane is open to the base. After lunch, it's open leaving the base, so really, you have about a 20-25 minute travel time and that's stopping for coffee!
