I'm from no-where-NEAR, VA, and I'm directionally challenged.

I've tried raking through this part of the forum to see about Newport News, and for the most part I see the majority saying how bad it is. However, I also found out what the good areas are, but I've never been there and I only have a crappy map and some narrowed down apartment addresses to go by.

So, 23601 and 23605, are they ok?

I'd rather not move to a place where my windows are getting shot out or I'm getting myself hit over the head if I happen to come home after sunset.

To anyone that can help, THANKS.

Most of 23605 are ok once you past Briarfield Rd. Anything below that and it gets a little shady.

Default 23602

My parents live in the 23602 area and have been quite happy there safety wise for 15 years. I'm not sure what there are in the way of apartments there, but NN can change from street to street fairly quickly. The North end of town tends be better than the south end.

I was told to stay away from number streets, such as, 28th St etc. I found a house that I really like in the 23602 area code, but I am concerned about safety, good schools etc. Any help please?

I don't know what your price range is on an apartment, but we live in the Kiln Creek area of Newport News zip code 23602. We love it! We rent a duplex home but there is Featherstone Apartments in Kiln Creek and some private condos for rent in Glen Eagle. EVERYTHING you can think of is nearby within a 3 mile radius of this community. You have the airport, walmart, a mall, every restaurant you can think of, and the community is beautifully landscaped and very well maintained. We were worried about all that we read and heard about Newport News as well, but have no issues now that we live in Kiln Creek. Hope that helps.
