Can anyone explain why the jets at Oceana run their afterburners on the runway for extended periods of time? Tonight it went on for about 15 minutes straight. It doesn't usually go on that long. I've always wondered!

Thanks!

(oh, and I am one of those "I love jet noise!" people, so know that I'm not complaining, just curious )

What you also may be hearing is the engine test building, where they test jet engines to make sure they are working properly...they can get cranked up pretty loud while being tested..........I am happy I dont live in the jet noise area of the beach but my younger sister does and I must be honest....I dont know how she does it, when I am visiting her and the jets are flying, wow it drives me crazy they are so loud...she says you get used to it but I sure dont see how......I know without a doubt I could not live where she lives....but that is her choice and I agree.......... dont live next to a jet base and then complain about the jet noise, thats kind of like living on the beach and complaining about the sand.....

Thanks!

We don't mind the noise. We live about 4 miles from the base and hear it often, to say the least.
