My husband, my 2.5 year old son and I are coming to visit several cities in Virginia in early January and we plan to move within the year. We are very interested in the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area and I was hoping for some advice. We are looking for a safe area to live, with great schools, and great weather/locations to be outside and active. We would want a 3-4 bedroom/2 bath house and our budget would be in the 200,000-250,000 range. We would greatly appreciate any advice on neighborhoods to consider and activities or parts of the city or near by area that we should see while we are there. Also, if anyone can recommend a good real estate agent, we were hoping to look at some houses while we are there. Thank you for your time.

Safe area with great schools, I don't think you can find that anywhere in Virginia Beach or Chesapeake for 200-250K. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a decent house in a so-so safe area with so-so schools. I would consider renting if you do move here. Not sure about Va. Beach, but in Chesapeake, Grassfield, Great Bridge, and Hickory are the best school districts. There are lots of good posts about the positives and negatives of this area so you should find plenty to help you make your decision.
