I live in Newport News, and love to go out at night, but can't stand all the super drunk and horny college students. I myself am a recent college graduate, but I consider myself to be a little more mature than most people my age. My boyfriend and I have wanted to find a nice bar where we can just hang out and not worry about people trying to 'pick us up.' It would be nice to listen to some nice music, and be able to interact with a more mature crowd. Are there any places like this around the Newport News/Williamsburg area? I would really prefer to stay on this side of the water, as Va beach is so far away.

Try the SPOt in Williamsburg, it is a new bar and restaurant. Very chill, they have karaoke, live bands, Live Dj, free pool and darts, a vip lounge with recliners, NTN trivia etc.....!
I think their website is [url=http://www.thespotofwilliamsburg.co

I know that this new "town Center" just opened in Williamsburg...we drove through it, and it's pretty nice...don't know about jazz/piano places, but looks like there's some nice trendy restaurants....

New Town - Williamsburg, Virginia

...Looks like they have Live Jazz at Buon Amici Restaurant. Have fun!

I hear that JM Randalls is a good place to listen to blues and jazz. Never been there though and I intend on checking it out when we move down this month.

Never been to the spot, but have been to Randall's. I like Randall's, there are nights that they have some really descent bands play and then there are nights that some not so good bands play. They have descent bar food, I love the wings, they have pool tables and a nice outdoor sitting area. Overall, I like Randall's my one complaint would be the amount of smoke that is in that bar!!! Even when no one is there, during the day, the smoke and the smell is horrific if that is something that you do not participate in.

Yeah, sitting in a smoky bar is not my thing. We passed a smoking ban law in Ohio a few years back and it has made things so much better. Bars complained saying they would lose business, but in reality after the law passed, they ended up getting more business.

I see JM Randalls as a place I will enjoy if this VA smoking ban passes. We'll see...
