Can anyone give me a decent alternate route of driving from Hampton, VA to Chesapeake, VA to near the Greenbriar Mall without having to go through the Hampton Roads bridge tunnel? I am not familiar at all with Chesapeake and I have a job interview in there near the mall and if I get the job I would rather not have to drive through the tunnel everyday, unless every other route takes significantly longer to drive. Thanks.

Take the Monitor Merrimac tunnel. It will take you right to Chesapeake.

I second that advice. That's the route I always use.

Thanks so much. You take 664 to go the Monitor Merrimac Tunnel route, right?

Yes, just follow the road. It travels in a big "U," get off like you are going to Virginia Beach and then you will be on the interstate that takes you to the Battlefield and Greenbriar exits. They're putting in new roads, so there may be a little backup, but worth the trip!

The Monitor Merrimack is the BEST tunnel in HR. You will only find small backups when the shipyard shift starts and ends. Even then it is quite managable.
