We are coming down January 5th-6th and were wondering if there are any excellent restaurants that we *have* to try?

What type of food are they? Are they family-oriented? We'll have our 18 month old with us

We have taken our kids (2+4) with us to the Boot but not Trilogy.

Trilogy is a fancy restaurant.

The Boot is a "green" restaurant. They use local stuff (try their VA cheese and nuts) and organic too.

If you want somewhat upscale, with great food, great service, and a great ambiance, I would suggest Ruth Chris's Steak house in Town Center. Attire is Business. For awesome fish and seafood, and a Business Casual atmosphere, try One Fish, Two Fish. It's right on a well maintained marina, their prices are more reasonable, and they have a more diverse crowd.

I second One Fish, Two Fish....one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I would also try Freemason Abbey in Norfolk, kid friendly, neat atmosphere (old church), casual attire and they have the best She-Crab soup and other great items on the menu as well. 4,5,6 Fish in Norfolk is good too...

There are several threads on here with restaurant suggestions. Have a nice trip to the area!

Oh gosh! Ya gotta go to Croakers on shore drive. They open at 5pm, have the Jimmy Buffet atmosphere and awesome seafood and other items. Even a children's menu.
Steinhilbers' supper club on Thalia. You will love it and the atmoshere is very nastalgic.

Doumar's Drive-In on Monticello and 20th Ave in Norfolk. It's famous for BBQ and for the waffle cones. You can eat in the restaurant or in your car. It was recently featured on Diner, Drive-ins and Dives on the FOOD NETWORK. It has been open since 1907, in current location since 1934. Look at their website at doumars.com . The place is legendary!
