Hi all! We are getting ready to move to the VA Beach area. We have 2 kids-ages 2 and 4. We are looking for an area that is very community/family oriented and also close to good schools. We would like to find an area with sidewalks so we can walk and run. Both of my children will be starting elementary school. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Are you moving to the Virginia Beach area or specifically Virginia Beach? Are you looking at Chesapeake or Norfolk, also?

We are really just interested in the Virginia Beach area. Possibly Chesapeake.

Again it comes down to cost and what you want to spend on a home......if you can give us that figure then we could give you some choices

I think most of Virginia Beach is nice save a few specific neighborhoods, mostly the ones bordering Norfolk (i.e. Lake Edwards, Campus East, Northridge, etc.) that have a higher crime rate. Aragona can be a little shady, but I spent a lot of time hanging out in that neighborhood during high school and never had much of a problem. As I'm sure you know, any sketchy area gets more sketchy at night and that's the only time I felt a little uneasy. If I were you, I'd look for places in the Great Neck area. It's really safe, a lot of those neighborhoods are nice a quiet, and some do have sidewalks.

Windsor Woods and Windsor Oaks are nice as well and have good elementary schools and not far from Mt. Trashmore. Probably more in your price range for renting.
