Hello,

I am new to Hampton Roads, and live in Virginia Beach. I am looking for an OB/GYN- preferably one that accepts TriCare.

Also, I've heard mixed reviews about hospitals in the area, in terms of labor and delivery. I've heard multiple women say that Sentara Leigh is the best hospital to deliver in. Does anyone here have any opinions about the L&D programs in this area?

Thanks in advance!

Leigh is a good hospital. It's small enough where the patients aren't just a number and get quality care. As far as ob/gyn's, I go to the Sentara Healthplex on Volvo Pkwy in Chesapeake. I also recommend Dr. MaryBeth Dixon for childbirth and planned parenthood. She is a very good doctor and has children of her own.

Thank you, Erma! A friend of mine just recommended Virginia Center for Women. They deliver at Chesapeake General. Any positives/ negatives re: the Center or Ches. Gen.?

Tidewater Physicians for Women are very good, and one of their offices is right next to Leigh. I LOVED delivering at Leigh.

Mothers Favorite has a good recommendation too. Chesapeake Gen. is a good hospital. I had outpatient surgery there and got the best of care. Good anethesiologist too!

Yeah I know, but when I had my son they made me get a nonavailability statement before I got to pick my civilian doc. Without that they won't pay for maternity care. Just looking out.

Thanks for the heads up, Spazkat. We actually chose TriCare Standard specifically for pregnancy, so that I could go outside of Portsmouth for my care.
