Hi,

We're transferring to Hampton in August and are looking in the 23669 zip code. Does anyone have information about that zip and Kecoughtan High School? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Julie

23669 has the Fox Hill neighborhood which is one of Hampton's best neighborhoods. It also has some good neighborhoods along Little Back River Rd. Basically stay North of Mercury Blvd.

On the high school. Hampton public schools are not a favorite with the locals but Kecoughtan HS in my opinion is a decent school.

Some info and opinion.

We lived right off mercury on big bethel and it was nice. The thing to remember is your street may be great but the next one over could be really bad. Its like that all over virginia.

Hampton is a pretty bad place to live, and it has gotten much worse.

There are good parts and bad parts to Hampton. Salt Ponds, Fox Hill, North Hampton- nice; Shell Road, Rip Rap Road area, not so good.

I have live in Hampton for 41 years, and I think it is a great city to live in. We do have our problems just like other cities, but we have a great Police Department to take care of that.
Our City Council leaves a lot to be desired as they tend to vote for the elite and keep the middle class pinned down. They are now voting to develop at Buckroe Beach for high end home and taking land away from the Beach and Park area.
My wife and children graduated from Kecoughtan High School and we just happen to think it is the best school in Hampton. We do have problems keeping a good Superintendent here due to the School Board.
Overall Hampton is a really good place to live.

If you're moving to Hampton I would definitely check out Fox Hill, Scotland Square, and the Elizabeth Lake Estates areas. Great homes and great neighborhoods at good prices. I'm a realtor so if you need any information just let me know. Theo

Default I know, it's an old thread...

My family is relocating to the Hampton area (my husband will be working in Norfolk and Newport News both while we are living there, so we are looking to be relatively central to ease the commute). I have read everything I could find on the area and am still not sure where the best places to look for a rental home would be. What areas/neighborhoods, streets, etc should we definitely stay away from? Does anyone out there have information on the elementary schools in the area (I have a son that will be starting school while we are there)? Can anyone tell me what my options will be for grocery stores (I am from the WEST)? How about the options for internet and cable/satellite, i.e. what companies are out there? Any advice regarding property management or rental agents to contact or stay away from as we look for a place to rent (we are looking for a single family home, I'm not keen on the idea of living in an apartment)?

Any and all help is appreciated!
