Hi, I am a mother of 3 kids and one of them is Transgender. Medical condition of GID (Gender Identity Disorder)
We will be relocating in VA soon (we are in Germany right now), and we need to find a nice and safe place to live for our family. My husband will work in Norfolk (civilian), and we don't know the VA area at all.. We are looking to find a single home to rent for a max of $2300.
If somebody has any suggestion or know an area around Norfolk where my child will not be treated like a "monster" and maybe with good schools I will appreciate it.
Thank you.
Ang

Well, 1st you will have no problem renting in your price range. 2nd, are you set on Norfolk? Chesapeake and Va Beach tend to have better schools and is more suburban - residential. I would really try to avoid Norfolk, but there is some family friendly areas if you must live there.

I am not an expert on those areas, but others should pipe in that can give you a better idea about the school districts.

Both Ghent and Larchmont's (Norfolk) school districts are pretty good from what I hear. However, I admit that I don't have children, so I'm only relaying what I've heard from other parents.

It depends on where in Chesapeake or VA Beach, some schools in those cities aren't so hot.

I don't have any children , so I am not sure what types of schools there are in Virginia Beach. May I suggest looking into a performing arts school for your transgender child, if there is one in Norfolk or Virginia Beach. I went to a performing arts school in Pittsburgh and there were a lot of gay and transgender people that went to school there, and we all accepted each other for our differences. I know that may be rare nowadays, but this is probably the only area or community that would be open minded to this. Most offer music, drama/acting, photography, etc. A type of school for people who are of a creative mind. That is my 2 cents.... good luck.

Have you moved to the area yet, and have you found a school for your children? Were you looking for public or private schools? I know of a small, private school that goes from preschool to 6th grade that would welcome all three of your children.

Hi, Angelina09.

Have you moved to the area yet, and have you found schools for your children? Were you looking for private or public schools? I know of a small private school in Norfolk that goes from preschool (age 3) to sixth grade, who would love to have your three children.
