Anyone have any idea what's going on here? I thought they were building HOV lanes, but when I drove past today, there's a bunch of railroad track down there now. I hadn't heard of any light rail coming to Suffolk/Newport News, so I can't see what purpose it would serve, unless they're just adding normal rail lines in the area.

As far as I know those go to the terminal along 164. The new one with the big cranes.

You can see new train tracks in the middle of 164 as well. They are beautiful. Can't wait to see trains.

I heard there were talks between the Southside's mayors and Norfolk Southern about building a railway from Richmond to Norfolk with stops in Suffolk and Chesapeake. It's supposed to be an East-bound continuation of the bullet train railway going from DC to Richmond, Richmond to Petersburg, and Petersburg to Raleigh. Could it possibly be that?

My friend is working that project and he said it's railroad tracks that'll service Maersk-Sealand Port Terminal. Not sure of any plans for it to be used for the public.
