You ever consider the fact that Im heavily underemployed allows me ample time to post WHILE at work?
By the way, every time someone like myself or Telemonster leaves, this area takes a step backward. One colossal problem with this area is that it has no desire to retain its young, intellegent, highly trained/skilled professionals. We simply leave to a greener pasture instead of being abused here.
The area really should figure out why so many of us are leaving or complaining, and fix it, not reply with "good riddance". We are the future, not the waitstaff and transient military that makes up most of the 22-30 demographic sticking around for "the beach".
Any how, I guess thats why places like New York City, Seattle, the NC research triangle, Washington DC and Silicon Valley are what they are, and this place is what it is.

How many of these lists need to come out before the Hampton Roads apologists simply accept that Hampton Roads is an ass stain on the shorts of the United States. A complete waste of a deep water covered port.
Geographically, Virginia Beach/Norfolk could have been another New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Boston. Instead, its a festering tourist trap.
Just a couple weekends ago, I was in Silver Spring, MD, population less then 100k, and it has a downtown and corporate presence that this pit down here can only drool over. I was amazed.
Im completely dumbfounded as to why this area cant put anything together outside of replacing the sand on the beach and partnering with developers to build endless McMansions.
anyone that puts much weight into any of these studies will believe anything including that Santa Claus is alive and well, after all these years. Next month Forbes will come out with a report advising everyone to flock to VB...
I think you should consider moving to an area that meets your needs a little more, but in the meanwhile stop believing these reports. Forbes has a new one out every other day..

Okay I see where you're coming from and I feel the same way about Richmond. However, Hampton Roads is a military town and Richmond is happy being "historic". So like everybody else said people like us need to move to areas where we would be happier with the life style offered rather than trying to change the people who are happy where they are. Obviously Virginia is happy with being able to drive to DC if they want to watch pro sports amoungst other activities. But if VA was just like DC what would either of them special? Leave VA. Go to MD and I'll be up there to join you shortly.
